Lead Coach
Hi everyone! I'm Raeshelle Tod, and I’ll be your lead instructor here at Bighorn Jiu Jitsu. I was born in Miles City and lived there until I was about 12, when my family moved to Gilbert, Arizona. The name “Bighorn” comes from my maiden name, and it carries deep meaning for my family and me.
Back in Arizona, my family was deeply involved in the jiu jitsu community. I trained alongside my oldest brother, who inspired me to start this journey, as well as with my two other brothers and my sister Luree, who some of you might’ve already met here.
Jeremy (my husband) and I began training on November 17, 2021. I’m honored to train under Gustavo Dantas, a 6th-degree black belt under Master André “Dede” Pederneiras in Brazil. Gustavo has run his academy in Tempe, AZ for over 20 years and has been a huge part of my growth in this sport.
Receiving my purple belt from Gustavo was one of my proudest moments. While competing at white belt, I was ranked the top female and earned 5 medals; 3 of them gold.
After taking a break from competition to grieve the loss of our oldest brother, I’m now stepping forward to carry on his dream: keeping jiu jitsu alive through family, and opening a gym in a place we now call home.
To those who’ve stepped up, supported us, and joined this movement… thank you. This journey isn’t a quick win; it’s a long, rewarding path.
You’re signing up for more than classes. You’re signing up for growth; physically, mentally, and emotionally. Jiu jitsu will test you, shape you, and empower you. And as they say: 99% of altercations end up on the ground, this is the art for that.
Now, ladies… this part is just for you.
Men, feel free to move on 😉
I used to be a total germaphobe! It took me a while to “gi up” but now I’m one of its biggest advocates. This isn’t just wrestling around or fighting so to speak. It’s a real, life-saving skill.
One of my close friends once defended against an attacker and scared him off thanks to what she learned in class. On top of that, it’s one of the most effective ways to build confidence, burn fat, and push yourself.
We need more women on the mats. If you’re curious, nervous, or just want to chat, I’m here. Reach out to me anytime.
